In late 2013, Swiftwick had the privilege of hosting Shane Perrin at their office to kick off his great Natchez Trace journey. .Take a look…
Shane is a 12-year kidney transplant recipient and was attempting to become the first person to complete the entire 444-mile trek of the Natchez Trace Parkway from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee on a land paddle. It wasn’t going to be easy, but he was determined.
Starting the day off right, Shane pulled out his custom made land paddle boards for the Swiftwick crew to try. They quickly realized what a feat Shane was taking on as they were attempting to paddle the 100 meters across the flat, well-paved parking lot, comparing it to the length and hills of the beautiful 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway. The crew said the board was tough to steer because of its size, and after a few minutes of paddling they were all experiencing sore arms and abs! It was clear to them this wouldn’t be an easy journey for Shane.
Shane began his trek on a late Thursday afternoon beginning in Natchez, Mississippi. After a few days of persistence and adrenaline, Shane successfully became the first person to land paddle the entire Natchez Trace by pulling into Nashville late Monday afternoon by averaging just over 4.5 mph and over 111 miles per day!
We want you to hear about his journey so here’s a quick video of Shane explaining his Natchez Trace Parkway achievement.
Congratulations, Shane! What an accomplishment. The Natchez Trace Compact is proud of him and hope others try land paddling this scenic route, too.
If you’re heading north or south, east or west in Mississippi, Alabama or Tennessee, take the Trace! You’ll love the gorgeous scenery, laid back drive and points of interest along the way. Follow The Natchez Trace on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.
